 About the Artist

Karen Y. Chen paints in the traditions of her native China and nature is her favorite subject. She sees the nature as a rhythm of vitality and tranquility which is the essence of her art. Harmony of mankind and nature, simplicity and tranquility are always reflected in the composition of her paintings.

She studied under renowned masters of oriental art and Western artists. Possessed with the skills of different schools, she is capable of blending modern and traditional Chinese styles such as the Lingnan School, the splashing ink techniques and Hisech-I (writing the meaning) style, and the western expressions- tones, lights and colors to express her emotions and feelings of the nature and to permeate life and movement to the painting subjects. Her landscape suggests both realism and abstract She uses abstract lines and dots, the essence of Chinese painting, to draw clouds, mountains, trees and living subjects attempting to give visual expression of the harmony of man and nature. Clouds, mists and distant mountains that symbolize the real world, and beyond the surrounded those symbols of reality lead to the mind an imagined world of serenity and harmony.

Her works are in collection worldwide. She passes on her experience through workshops and in teaching courses at the University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College.
